DESCRIPTION:This Is Who I Am\n \n“Then they separated us. We tried to say no\, we applied for asylum as a couple. They say we don’t have any civil evidence that we are a couple. SUMMARY:This Is Who I Am reading @ Stour Space\, Hackney Wick
DESCRIPTION:This is a free event\n\n\nHere is a link to the event on facebook and eventbrite \n\nAffected by Detention\n\nWhat goes on in our immigration system and inside detention is often kept very hidden and migrant lives are misrepresented. Those with experience are not always in a position to speak out.\nThis exhibition is a series of photographs created and directed by people who have survived immigration and detention. The work is an expression of individual experiences\, focusing on the matters that the individuals most wanted to communicate about their journey. It is an opportunity to hear directly from those who have been affected. \nA little background…\n**”It’s not good\, you are locked. It’s like jail. There’s barbed wire all around the fences.’** \nIn the UK\, the Government detains approximately 30\,000 people for immigration purposes per year. Many are detained in conditions that challenge fundamental human rights\, just for administrative purposes. It is not a criminal procedure\, yet migrants are similarly locked up and denied their freedom. \nAbout SIFH+…\nSee It From Her + (SIFH+) is a project that supports women and those who feel oppressed because of their gender identity\, to have a voice and be heard through photography and image.

SUMMARY:Asylum Monologes @ Everyman Cheltenham Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Presented by ice&fire \n“This waiting for the Home Office to decide – me\, I always say that it is a diplomatic form of torture. They are not raping us\, they are not burning us with cigarettes\, they are not hitting us with guns\, but they are torturing us mentally\, and that’s the worst. Because – my scars\, they heal. It was painful but if I touch them now\, I feel no pain. But the torture that is mental – this is constant…” \nThe first script created for our Actors for Human Rights project\, Asylum Monologues is a first-hand account of the UK’s asylum system in the words of people who have experienced it. \nThe Actors for Human Rights programme was founded in 2006 and is a network of more than 700 professional actors across the UK who are dedicated to drawing public attention to human rights concerns. We respond to requests for rehearsed readings of our documentary plays and can go anywhere at any time. \nice&fire explores human rights stories through performance. We put human rights at the core of everything we do to make accessible theatre for a wide range of audiences across the UK. \nhttps://www.everymantheatre.org.uk/m-shows/asylum-monologues/
