SUMMARY:Detention Dialogues- UNESCO Spring School 19/5/21
DESCRIPTION:Detention Dialogues( revisited )\n\n\nDetention Dialogues are a series of verbatim scripts which feature the voices of migrants from different countries and continents. Created as part of IceandFire’s Actors For Human Rights project\, and in collaboration with Scottish Detainee Visitors(SDV) this piece of documentary theatre allows people to share their own story as told in their own words.\n\nTestimonies tell of people’s experience being held in immigration removal facilities across the U.K. Their powerful stories tell of an uncomfortable truth which all too often goes unheard\, the Detention Dialogues project aims to address this.\n\nUNESCO’s Spring School has featured live performances of Detention Dialogues before but this year we are presenting the material in a new way- giving participants the chance to listen to newly recorded audio extracts and explore their resonance through a different medium. Participants will be able to share thoughts in a facilitated Q&A with Steven Ritchie( Director\, I&F Actors For Human Rights Scotland) and Kate Alexander (Director\, SDV)

SUMMARY:Asylum Monologues: Families Together Edition // STAR National
DESCRIPTION:Asylum Monologues: Families Together Edition Hosted by Student Action For Refugees & presented by ice&fire theatre\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\n‘ I used to look up at the night sky and count the stars saying over and over to myself that this was not really happening to me. I would say\, I can’t die. I have to see my daughter. I have to be able to hold her and tell how much I’ve missed her – how much I love her. I want to see her grow up and to be sitting with ten grandchildren at the age of eighty. I never gave up.’ \nRead by actors and performers\, Asylum Monologues is a piece of documentary theatre sharing first hand accounts of peoples experiences of seeking refuge in the UK and undergoing the UK asylum process. ice&fire are a theatre company dedicated to exploring human rights stories through performance\, putting human rights at the core of everything they do to make accessible theatre for a wide range of audiences across the UK. \nSTAR is the national charity of 35\,000 students welcoming refugees to the UK. Together we: volunteer at local refugee projects; campaign to improve the lives of refugees; educate people about refugees and asylum; fundraise to welcome refugees. We support the Families Together campaign and campaign for the expansion of the UK’s refugee family reunion rules\, so that families are no longer kept apart. Read more about Families Together and sign the open letter here: https://www.amnesty.org.uk/actions/families-together \nThe Actors For Human Rights project is ice&fire’s campaigning programme\, presenting readings of first hand accounts of people’s experiences relating to a range of human rights themes. \nContent Warning: Experiences of state violence are shared in the reading
