We Were Sold the Dream
April 2026 | Scripted by Christine Bacon“Not having a visa means we can’t work. I feel stuck and I don’t want to be stuck.”
This piece emerged from a collaboration with Help for Southall Street Homeless.
Made up of first-hand accounts of four Indian nationals who have been profoundly affected by the UK’s ‘hostile environment’ for migrants.

The script explores the varied life histories, individual motivations and aspirations and the obstacles they have faced along the way.
It was first presented on April 22 206 at an event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hope for Southall Street Homeless.
“The main goal is sort your status and don’t worry about the hard life.
Then all dreams can start again.”
