Calling actors and musicians!

We are always looking for performers to join our growing network, which now comprises well over 600 professional actors and musicians around the country. The performances are presented as rehearsed readings, so there is no need to learn lines and we rehearse on the day. While travel and meal costs are covered, in most cases we do not offer a fee to performers as all involved donate their time and public profile to encourage respect for human rights laws and principles and to give voice to people whose basic human rights have been violated.

“I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to read for you yesterday. I was just not aware that all of this inhumane treatment was going on in the UK – that such an apparent champion of democracy and human rights should be acting in such flagrant disregard for humanity, human rights and compassion. If I had never worked for iceandfire I would still be living in ignorance.”An actor who works with iceandfire.

If you would like to be involved, please contact us. If you live in London or the South-East, email Christine at actors@iceandfire.co.uk. If you’re based ‘up north’, email Sue at actorsnorth@iceandfire.co.uk. In the email, please include your CV and up-to-date contact details. If you have friends or colleagues whom you think would be interested, please also let them know about us.

Other ways to get involved

Are there any venues and interested groups in your local area or among your networks who would be willing to either to host one of our performances, and/or organise an audience for one? Church groups, university clubs and local voluntary networks such as Amnesty groups are usually very active and can generate an audience easily. Our work slots in very easily at festivals and similar performance events. We also come to workplaces.

If you cannot afford the time, you may want to make a financial contribution to our work. No donation is too small!

Download our 12 Things You Can Do document to get you started! [PDF]. This document gives you some ideas about how you can help asylum seekers and refugees living in London (email us for suggestions about how to help in regional areas).

Or download 7 Things You Can Do [PDF] which will give you some ideas about how to get involved in campaigns which oppose extraordinary rendition.
